Meet Kim! @kimberlin.a

  1. What does pro-aging mean to you? Firstly, what conflicting thoughts did you battle while approaching midlife and beyond? This is tough because I don't think I had conflicting thoughts initially, but I became aware of the change in how the western world viewed me as I entered my 50's. I felt the shift in the attention received - in the workplace, and navigating through the day to day. Suddenly my value wasn't in how I looked, or even what I had to say. The effect of this realization was that I really needed to focus on who I was, and what I believed in. And this is where the real journey began for me.

  2. What are the positives of midlife and beyond? Following up on the above, the real blessing of being at this point is the wisdom garnered to this point, and with that, understanding what really matters and still having time to have an impact on the life of others.

  3. What are the challenges? I've found the challenges are the same as when you're younger - conflicting priorities and having enough time - eg your significant other, children, aging parents, working, achieving goals - and still making time for the important things beyond these that make your heart soar.

  4. What strategies do you use to overcome the challenges? I've learned that being a little greedy with self-care is the best strategy. It's true that if you have the ability to put yourself first and fill up your own cup, it gives you the strength to manage everything else.

  5. What words of wisdom would you have for the younger generations or your younger self? Always be kind. As the great Maya Angelou has been quoted, "People will forget what you said, and what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." One more thing. Never give up on your dreams, because it's never ever too late.

  6. How important are your female friends and why? I have been very fortunate to have met and loved, and been loved by some exceptional women who have become soul friends. These women have guided me through difficulties, raised me up, cheered me on and have always had my best interests at heart. And we've shared some magnificent pee-pee laughs through it all.

  7. What attributes would you want in a romantic partner? Nothing is more attractive to me than a wicked sense of humour, and integrity. Because it’s important to laugh at the little things, and its equally important to always have the best of intention.

  8. What do you find most fulfilling at this stage of life? Understanding that you can only control what you can control, and there is a great amount of peace that comes with this.

  9. Style is a reflection of who you are. What style reflects you? No one true style reflects who I am, because there are so many facets to who I am. I am as comfortable in jeans as I am in Lululemon. And I feel as good in trendy styles as I do in my jammies!

  10. What place does nutrition, fitness and wellness have in your life? What do these look like for you? Because we are living longer, nutrition and wellness is getting more attention in my life. I've recently been on a health journey where I've learned what I put inside me is more important than anything else I do. So more goodness (plant-based) goes in, and the red wine is now in moderation(ish).”
